| Collaborative Solutions – Cyber Team | Brianna Felipe, Omar Subhani, Pujan Patel | John Betak, Michael White | This project is a continuation of work completed by prior Collaborative Solutions externship teams. The project develops a basic cyber security risk assessment protocol for railroad operations. Specifically, it focuses on operations in non-urban areas and identifies methods to mitigate threats and vulnerabilities to these operations based upon current CISA/TSA directives for cybersecurity plans, systems, and monitoring. | |
| Collaborative Solutions: Grade Crossing Risk Analysis/Prediction | Amrik Krishnakumar, Paulo Vivanco Ojeda, Evelina Sentypal, Azmi Ahmed | John Betak, Michael White | This project aims to improve previous predictive models to analyze risk at rail-grade crossings and strengthen safety measures. Data will be pulled from the Federal Railroad Administration and US Census Bureau across four states (Connecticut, New Jersey, New York, and Pennsylvania) from 2018 – 2022, hoping to make a more accurate and generalizable model. These models will help us gain a better understanding of what factors contribute the most to grade-crossing accidents and which models can be used to predict them best. Three different machine learning models will be implemented, while the data analysis will be handled through Excel and Python. | |
